Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.34% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (L:GLEN), which rose 7.96% or 9.4500 points to trade at 128.2500 at the close. Standard Chartered PLC (L:STAN) added 7.85% or 31.300 points to end at 430.000 and Burberry Group PLC (L:BRBY) was up 7.54% or 89.000 points to 1269.000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (L:RBS), which lost 7.13% or 17.400 points to trade at 226.600 in late trade. International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (L:ICAG) declined 3.13% or 17.50 points to end at 541.00 and Severn Trent PLC (L:SVT) shed 1.30% or 28.00 points to 2130.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1511 to 572 and 448 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 1.55% or 19.20 to $1219.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.21% or 0.40 to hit $33.47 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.90% or 0.67 to trade at $35.96 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.70% to 1.3865, while EUR/GBP fell 0.15% to 0.7881.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.72% at 98.14.
