Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Consumer Durables, Capital Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty fell 0.33%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI), which rose 2.55% or 111.85 points to trade at 4497.00 at the close. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) added 2.27% or 64.55 points to end at 2909.65 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) was up 2.23% or 19.85 points to 908.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN), which lost 5.16% or 105.95 points to trade at 1945.65 in late trade. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 3.33% or 8.55 points to end at 247.90 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) shed 3.16% or 10.40 points to 318.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which rose 2.44% to 4494.60, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 1.88% to settle at 905.45 and Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which gained 1.04% to close at 575.20.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 3.07% to 248.10 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which lost 2.87% to settle at 1275.15 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 2.24% to 320.75 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 813 to 622 and 16 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 421 fell and 354 advanced, while 4 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 4.03% to 16.5350.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.07% or 0.80 to $1165.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.21% or 0.53 to hit $43.45 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.50% or 0.24 to trade at $47.30 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.08% to 64.990, while EUR/INR rose 0.02% to 71.8060.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.03% at 96.89.
