Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Telecoms and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.27% to hit a new 6-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Klondex Mines Ltd. (TO:KDX), which rose 8.75% or 0.330 points to trade at 4.100 at the close. Enerplus Corporation (TO:ERF) added 8.27% or 0.89 points to end at 11.65 and CES Energy Solutions Corp (TO:CEU) was up 8.13% or 0.430 points to 5.720 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boardwalk REIT (TO:BEI_u), which lost 11.30% or 5.47 points to trade at 42.94 in late trade. ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI) declined 5.44% or 0.080 points to end at 1.390 and Wheaton Precious Metals Corp (TO:WPM) shed 5.06% or 1.29 points to 24.19.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 575 to 505 and 133 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.52% to 13.81.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.46% or 5.88 to $1295.98 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.43% or 0.21 to hit $48.80 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.23% or 0.12 to trade at $52.02 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.52% to 0.7888, while CAD/EUR rose 0.07% to 0.6671.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 92.96.
