Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.71%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 6.30% or 33.50 points to trade at 565.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 5.63% or 13.40 points to end at 251.20 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 4.76% or 55.50 points to 1221.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 3.02% or 49.00 points to trade at 1576.00 in late trade. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 1.69% or 115.00 points to end at 6675.00 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) shed 1.14% or 2.30 points to 200.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1639 to 672 and 447 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 1.93% or 25.15 to $1279.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.68% or 0.30 to hit $44.37 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.09% or 0.04 to trade at $45.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.96% to 1.2397, while EUR/GBP rose 0.01% to 0.8903.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.92% at 97.83.
