According to a report by DigiTimes Asia, Apple's mixed reality headset, Vision Pro, could be facing trademark lawsuits.
The report states that as of 2019, Huawei had obtained authorization for the use of the "Vision Pro" product trademark in China.
They add that the trademark application number is 38242888, giving the company exclusive rights of trademark use from November 28, 2021, to November 27, 2031.
However, they note that there are three other companies authorized to use the Vision Pro trademark in the electronic category, with Huawei just one and the other two having received their trademark approval from the China National Intellectual Property Agency (CNIPA) in 2014 and 2021, respectively.
Cecilia Liu, a senior intellectual property rights (IPR) management consultant, told DigiTimes Asia that it's possible Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) applied for the trademark with the product features, as it could have a different appearance and function from any of the other products with the Vision Pro trademark currently available in China.
However, the publication points out that Apple may also face challenges in the US as Murray Equipment Inc applied for the "VisionPro" trademark in 2021, which was granted authorization in February 2023.
