Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Insurance, Fishery and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301), which rose 8.51% or 51.0 points to trade at 650.0 at the close. Softbank Corp. (T:9984) added 7.45% or 657.0 points to end at 9479.5 and Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) was up 5.11% or 14.6 points to 300.2 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fujifilm Holdings Corp. (T:4901), which lost 4.02% or 166.0 points to trade at 3964.0 in late trade. Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) declined 2.47% or 11.0 points to end at 434.0 and Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd. (T:4021) shed 2.09% or 80.0 points to 3740.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1556 to 1496 and 304 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.30% to 14.02.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.04% or 0.02 to $45.62 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.04% or 0.02 to hit $47.84 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.19% or 2.43 to trade at $1277.07 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.39% to 110.32, while EUR/JPY rose 0.03% to 123.28.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.50% at 97.43.
