Proactive Investors - The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (Biba) has reportedly advised households and businesses affected by Storm Ciarán to keep receipts and check their insurance policies for flood and water damage cover, exclusions, and excesses.
Biba said insurers should pay for temporary emergency repairs and alternative accommodation if needed, and that people should not rush to redecorate until the building is fully dried out, according to a report in the Standard.
Biba, the Association of British Insurers (ABI), and the Flood Re scheme have created a flood insurance directory to help people living in flood-prone areas find suitable cover.
The ABI urged people to have their insurer’s contact details handy and to follow the advice of the Met Office and other relevant agencies for weather warnings and prevention measures.
Storm Ciarán has already caused damage to properties, power outages, school closures, and travel disruptions in some areas, especially in the south of England and the Channel Islands.
