BERLIN (Reuters) - Former German champions Werder Bremen slumped to a 2-0 home defeat to Borussia Moenchengladbach on Sunday to sink deeper into trouble after having now gone eight games without a win in the Bundesliga.

First-half goals from Lars Stindl and Jannik Vestergaard in a span of seven minutes and close to 70 percent possession for much of the game gave Gladbach a trouble-free victory and lifted them to fifth on 14 points.

Werder, champions in 2004 and runners-up two years later, have gone into free fall, having lost four of their opening games to sit in 17th place on just four points and putting the future of coach Alexander Nouri in serious doubt.

Earlier VfL Wolfsburg twice battled from a goal down to draw 2-2 against Bayer (DE:BAYGN) Leverkusen. It was the Wolves' fourth straight draw under new coach Martin Schmidt.

League leaders Borussia Dortmund suffered their first league loss of the season when they were beaten 3-2 by RB Leipzig on Saturday to end their 41-game unbeaten run at home.

Dortmund are on 19 points, two ahead of champions Bayern Munich, who crushed Freiburg 5-0 on the return of coach Jupp Heynckes also on Saturday. Leipzig are third on 16.
