Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.88%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 5.01% or 14.40 points to trade at 301.60 at the close. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) added 4.09% or 132.50 points to end at 3374.50 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 4.00% or 41.00 points to 1065.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 2.79% or 41.00 points to trade at 1429.00 in late trade. Provident Financial (LON:PFG) declined 2.67% or 65.00 points to end at 2368.00 and Micro Focus International (LON:MCRO) shed 1.85% or 42.00 points to 2229.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1024 to 924 and 409 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.51% or 18.77 to $1223.53 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.56% or 0.72 to hit $46.76 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.33% or 0.65 to trade at $49.42 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.58% to 1.2952, while EUR/GBP rose 0.07% to 0.8776.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.56% at 95.92.
