Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.33%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 1.89% or 5.60 points to trade at 302.20 at the close. Bajaj Auto Limited (NS:BAJA) added 1.56% or 36.20 points to end at 2364.10 and Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) was up 0.19% or 3.25 points to 1705.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which lost 7.81% or 5.50 points to trade at 64.90 in late trade. TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) declined 7.16% or 17.85 points to end at 231.45 and Cairn India Limited (NS:CAIL) shed 5.06% or 6.30 points to 118.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 1.92% to 302.20, Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which was up 1.48% to settle at 2362.55 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 0.30% to close at 1174.80.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 7.81% to 64.90 in late trade, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which lost 7.18% to settle at 231.50 and NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which was down 4.28% to 134.25 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1129 to 329 and 12 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 630 fell and 187 advanced, while 6 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.81% to 18.0350.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.27% or 3.00 to $1125.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 3.30% or 1.04 to hit $30.57 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 3.17% or 1.08 to trade at $33.16 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.20% to 67.966, while EUR/INR rose 0.40% to 74.1430.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.05% at 99.00.
