Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Automobiles & Parts and Trading sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:2269), which rose 17.00% or 3010.0 points to trade at 20720.0 at the close. Toyobo Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:3101) added 7.61% or 14.0 points to end at 198.0 and Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6976) was up 6.54% or 97.0 points to 1581.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (TOKYO:1332), which lost 8.50% or 38.0 points to trade at 409.0 in late trade. Ebara Corp. (TOKYO:6361) declined 6.83% or 37.0 points to end at 505.0 and Credit Saison Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:8253) shed 6.14% or 167.0 points to 2555.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1143 to 734 and 1 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.31% to 17.74.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.48% or 0.21 to $44.94 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.16% or 0.08 to hit $49.51 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.03% or 0.30 to trade at $1085.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.06% to 124.79, while EUR/JPY fell 0.04% to 136.12.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.07% at 97.91.
