Investing.com – Greece equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Utilities and Basic Resources sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Athens, the Athens General-Composite gained 2.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General-Composite were Bank Of Piraeus (AT:BOPr), which rose 22.86% or 0.048 points to trade at 0.258 at the close. Eurobank Ergasias SA (AT:EURBr) added 21.59% or 0.019 points to end at 0.107 and Marfin Invest (AT:MRFr) was up 12.61% or 0.014 points to 0.125 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Opap (AT:OPAr), which lost 5.20% or 0.410 points to trade at 7.470 in late trade. Lamda Develop (AT:LMDr) declined 3.72% or 0.11 points to end at 2.85 and Jumbo (AT:BABr) shed 3.68% or 0.300 points to 7.860.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 52 to 24 and 3 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 1.33% or 16.00 to $1187.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.28% or 0.16 to hit $56.77 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.10% or 0.69 to trade at $62.77 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.16% to 1.0720, while EUR/GBP fell 0.86% to 0.7130.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 98.29.
