Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Osisko Gold Ro (TO:OR), which rose 13.54% or 1.95 points to trade at 16.35 at the close. Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN) added 5.02% or 0.47 points to end at 9.84 and Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TO:SSL) was up 3.64% or 0.170 points to 4.840 in late trade.
Biggest losers included North West Company Inc . (TO:NWC), which lost 3.15% or 1.04 points to trade at 31.98 in late trade. Russel Metals Inc . (TO:RUS) declined 3.09% or 0.77 points to end at 24.13 and WestJet Airlines Ltd (TO:WJA) shed 2.64% or 0.61 points to 22.51.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 701 to 438 and 131 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.65% to 13.23.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.15% or 1.90 to $1282.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.67% or 0.32 to hit $47.34 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.02% or 0.51 to trade at $49.44 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.05% to 0.7413, while CAD/EUR rose 0.30% to 0.6594.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 96.76.
