Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Metals, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Auto sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.96%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.85%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 3.51% or 8.65 points to trade at 254.95 at the close. GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) added 1.61% or 6.25 points to end at 395.00 and Wipro Ltd . (NS:WIPR) was up 1.41% or 6.70 points to 480.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which lost 4.38% or 7.10 points to trade at 154.85 in late trade. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) declined 3.93% or 161.65 points to end at 3953.70 and Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) shed 3.91% or 52.00 points to 1276.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 3.31% to 254.40, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was up 1.54% to settle at 394.90 and Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which gained 1.49% to close at 480.65.
The worst performers were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 4.48% to 154.70 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 2.54% to settle at 613.20 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 2.49% to 258.70 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 954 to 526 and 56 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1026 fell and 599 advanced, while 56 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.88% to 13.2300.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.30% or 4.00 to $1337.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.53% or 0.73 to hit $46.89 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.62% or 0.81 to trade at $49.18 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.16% to 66.740, while EUR/INR rose 0.23% to 75.2060.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.01% at 95.03.
