Proactive Investors - Britain risks another sharp rise in energy costs due to its heavy reliance on gas, according to a report by the Energy Crisis Commission.
The expert panel, which includes representatives from Energy UK, Citizens Advice, and National Energy Action, warned that the UK remains "dangerously underprepared" for future energy crises.
The commission’s first report highlighted insufficient progress in insulating homes and installing heat pumps since the 2021 energy crisis, exacerbated by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Despite government support costing £78bn, 7.5 million households remain in fuel poverty, and energy debt has reached £3.5bn.
The commission urged the government to accelerate energy efficiency measures and reduce the UK's dependence on gas for heating and electricity.
Industry leaders stressed the importance of shifting to low-carbon alternatives to protect both households and the economy from future price shocks.
