Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Pharmaceutical Industry, Trading and Fishery sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Fujikura Ltd. (T:5803), which rose 12.36% or 88.0 points to trade at 800.0 at the close. Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. (T:5802) added 5.93% or 98.5 points to end at 1758.5 and Sony Corp. (T:6758) was up 4.99% or 168.0 points to 3537.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd. (T:4021), which lost 7.54% or 305.0 points to trade at 3740.0 in late trade. Kobe Steel, Ltd. (T:5406) declined 6.87% or 75.0 points to end at 1016.5 and Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (T:6703) shed 6.72% or 110.0 points to 1526.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1537 to 1436 and 354 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.01% to 20.54.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.64% or 0.34 to $53.88 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.50% or 0.28 to hit $56.84 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.38% or 4.65 to trade at $1214.75 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.27% to 113.11, while EUR/JPY rose 0.21% to 121.61.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 99.93.
