Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Financial Services, Oil & Gas Producers and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 3.80% or 25.50 points to trade at 696.50 at the close. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) added 3.40% or 131.00 points to end at 3984.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) was up 2.13% or 4.30 points to 206.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which lost 17.59% or 504.00 points to trade at 2361.00 in late trade. Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) declined 2.42% or 33.00 points to end at 1329.00 and Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) shed 2.39% or 36.00 points to 1469.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1273 to 666 and 439 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.20% or 2.47 to $1245.97 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.71% or 0.31 to hit $43.20 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.87% or 0.40 to trade at $45.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.25% to 1.2661, while EUR/GBP fell 0.16% to 0.8802.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 97.36.
