Proactive Investors - Pasta bake, spaghetti Bolognese and fish fingers with chips have all soared by around 25% in price in the last year, research from Which? found.
Prices of penne pasta, tomato sauce and cheddar cheese jumped from £2.68 for four people in May 2022 to £3.39 twelve months later, a 27% jump.
A dinner of fish fingers, chips and beans rose 24% from £3.06 a year ago to £3.79 now.
A surge in the price of beans was the main driver, with average prices increasing 36% while Asda upped teh price of one of its versions by 77%.
Frozen chips have also been hit by inflation, in J Sainsbury (OTC:JSAIY) its own-brand French fries increased by 110% in twelve months.
Homemade spaghetti Bolognese now costs £6.63 for four, a 20% jump from the £5.53 price tag seen in May last year.
Surging mincemeat prices were a clear driver with Tesco PLC's (LON:TSCO) own brand version up by 59% year-on-year.
Sue Davies, Which? head of food policy has called for changes at supermarkets such as stocking budget lines in all convenience stores and being more transparent with prices.
Davies said: “Official Inflation data due out next week is still expected to show food prices at an elevated level, if supermarkets can’t do the right thing by their customers, it’s time for the government to take action.”
