Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 9.99% or 91.50 points to trade at 1007.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 9.78% or 48.20 points to end at 540.90 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 9.49% or 13.7000 points to 158.0000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shire PLC (LON:SHP), which lost 2.38% or 87.00 points to trade at 3568.00 in late trade. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) declined 2.07% or 3.4000 points to end at 160.6000 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 2.04% or 31.000 points to 1485.000.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1128 to 992 and 427 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 2.79% or 34.30 to $1264.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 3.48% or 1.34 to hit $39.80 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 2.33% or 0.94 to trade at $41.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.58% to 1.4485, while EUR/GBP fell 0.71% to 0.7815.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.99% at 94.75.
