Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Technology Hardware & Equipment and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were TUI AG (LONDON:TUIT), which rose 2.94% or 33.00 points to trade at 1156.00 at the close. ARM Holdings (LONDON:ARM) added 2.76% or 30.00 points to end at 1118.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals (LONDON:HIK) was up 2.74% or 52.00 points to 1947.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo Plc (LONDON:FRES), which lost 1.99% or 14.50 points to trade at 712.50 in late trade. Glencore Xstrata Plc (LONDON:GLEN) declined 1.74% or 4.80 points to end at 271.55 and Royal Mail (LONDON:RMG) shed 1.28% or 6.50 points to 502.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1352 to 1207 and 438 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.07% or 0.90 to $1202.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.99% or 1.21 to hit $59.61 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.45% or 1.57 to trade at $62.69 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.07% to 1.5867, while EUR/GBP fell 0.15% to 0.7143.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.24% at 94.43.
