Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Technology Hardware & Equipment and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 3.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LONDON:ANTO), which rose 8.72% or 46.50 points to trade at 579.50 at the close. London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LONDON:LSE) added 6.96% or 165.00 points to end at 2536.00 and St. James`s Place PLC (LONDON:SJP) was up 6.40% or 55.00 points to 914.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources Ltd (LONDON:RRS), which lost 3.54% or 147.00 points to trade at 4001.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LONDON:FRES) declined 0.70% or 4.50 points to end at 639.50 and Royal Mail PLC (LONDON:RMG) shed 0.28% or 1.30 points to 459.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2306 to 446 and 363 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 1.53% or 17.70 to $1135.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.19% or 1.22 to hit $39.46 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.60% or 0.69 to trade at $43.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.49% to 1.5700, while EUR/GBP fell 1.29% to 0.7271.
The US Dollar Index was up 1.33% at 94.62.
