Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Electronic & Electrical Equipment and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 2.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Sports Direct International PLC (L:SPD), which rose 6.08% or 24.200 points to trade at 422.000 at the close. Royal Dutch Shell PLC (L:RDSa) added 1.90% or 26.00 points to end at 1391.00 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC (L:RDSb) was up 5.27% or 69.5 points to 1388.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (L:AAL), which lost 8.59% or 21.30 points to trade at 226.70 in late trade. Glencore PLC (L:GLEN) declined 4.46% or 3.6700 points to end at 78.5800 and Pearson PLC (L:PSON) shed 1.88% or 14.50 points to 757.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1878 to 356 and 347 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.06% or 0.70 to $1098.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 7.33% or 2.17 to hit $31.70 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 7.76% or 2.27 to trade at $31.52 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.51% to 1.4292, while EUR/GBP fell 1.07% to 0.7565.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.31% at 99.45.
