Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Consumption sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3), which rose 10.90% or 1.99 points to trade at 20.25 at the close. ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3) added 9.39% or 0.29 points to end at 3.38 and Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3) was up 8.33% or 2.92 points to 37.99 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vale SA (SA:VALE3), which lost 14.51% or 2.55 points to trade at 15.03 in late trade. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) declined 13.61% or 1.12 points to end at 7.11 and Vale SA (SA:VALE5) shed 12.05% or 1.54 points to 11.24.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 151 to 149 and 25 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.26% to 53.03.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.13% or 1.70 to $1262.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 4.06% or 1.54 to hit $36.36 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 0.58% or 0.70 to trade at $121.67 .
USD/BRL was down 0.73% to 3.7550, while EUR/BRL fell 0.80% to 4.1327.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.07% at 97.19.
