Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Automobiles & Parts and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (L:MRW), which rose 8.67% or 13.20 points to trade at 165.50 at the close. Tesco PLC (L:TSCO) added 6.70% or 9.7500 points to end at 155.2000 and Shire PLC (L:SHP) was up 4.82% or 189.00 points to 4114.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources Ltd (L:RRS), which lost 3.75% or 163.00 points to trade at 4188.00 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (L:ANTO) declined 3.51% or 13.60 points to end at 374.10 and BHP Billiton PLC (L:BLT) shed 2.86% or 18.20 points to 617.90.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1220 to 975 and 392 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.96% or 10.50 to $1085.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 3.53% or 1.11 to hit $30.30 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 3.32% or 1.06 to trade at $30.82 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.90% to 1.4413, while EUR/GBP rose 0.58% to 0.7510.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.34% at 99.26.
