Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Communication, Textile and Transport sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Unitika, Ltd. (TOKYO:3103), which rose 6.67% or 4.0 points to trade at 64.0 at the close. SUMCO Corp. (TOKYO:3436) added 6.39% or 76.0 points to end at 1266.0 and Yokogawa Electric Corp. (TOKYO:6841) was up 6.28% or 90.0 points to 1522.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (TOKYO:5706), which lost 7.19% or 22.0 points to trade at 284.0 in late trade. Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TOKYO:9501) declined 6.21% or 55.0 points to end at 830.0 and Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4005) shed 3.82% or 25.0 points to 629.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1380 to 498 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.28% to 17.73.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.23% or 0.10 to $43.77 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.15% or 0.07 to hit $49.16 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.02% or 0.20 to trade at $1094.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.32% to 124.67, while EUR/JPY rose 0.34% to 136.71.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 97.74.
