Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Automobiles & Parts and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.93%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were BP Plc (LONDON:BP), which rose 1.25% or 5.90 points to trade at 479.35 at the close. Severn Trent Plc (LONDON:SVT) added 0.61% or 13.00 points to end at 2134.00 and SKY PLC (LONDON:SKYB) was up 0.48% or 5.00 points to 1052.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included St James`S Place (LONDON:SJP), which lost 3.23% or 31.00 points to trade at 927.50 in late trade. Anglo American (LONDON:AAL) declined 2.74% or 28.50 points to end at 1010.50 and GKN (LONDON:GKN) shed 2.51% or 9.30 points to 361.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2002 to 586 and 468 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.35% or 4.20 to $1202.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.15% or 0.65 to hit $56.06 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.04 to trade at $63.95 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.04% to 1.4940, while EUR/GBP rose 0.15% to 0.7216.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.08% at 97.80.
