Benzinga - A self-professed "Crypto King" was reportedly kidnapped and subject to days of torture and assault, with attackers demanding a multi-million-dollar ransom.
What Happened: Aiden Pleterski, a 23-year-old based out of Ontario, Canada, was kidnapped from Toronto in December and held hostage by kidnappers, demanding $3 million in ransom money, according to reports by CTV News Toronto.

In court documents related to a bankruptcy case against Pleterski, he stands accused of spending millions. Captive and desperate, Pleterski contacted his landlord in the middle of the night and asked for a staggering $3 million — as recounted in court papers.
“I received multiple calls from Aiden," the landlord recalled, “But it was late at night and I finally had enough. At around 1:30 a.m., I picked up the call.”
Pleterski told him there was nobody else he could call, to which the landlord said simply, “There’s absolutely nothing I can do.”
It turns out, Pleterski is embroiled in a bankruptcy controversy in which he was asked to invest over $40 million, but instead spent almost $16 million on luxurious vacations, high-end cars and private jets, as reported by CTV News.
Commenting on the case, bankruptcy trustee Rob Stelzer said: “He ran a business in which he told people he would invest their money, and that’s not what happened. He really didn’t do what he said he was going to do.”
