Benzinga - Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr has again shown his unwavering support for the apex cryptocurrency Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC).

What Happened: In a post on X — formerly Twitter — Kennedy Jr. expressed his views on Bitcoin, referring to it as an “exercise and guarantee” of freedom.

Kennedy said he identifies himself as a “lifelong defender of civil liberties” and believes that Bitcoin represents the freedoms associated with those very liberties.

As the presidential election draws near, Kennedy has placed a strong emphasis on Bitcoin.

In August, the Democratic presidential candidate suggested that Bitcoin may not be as harmful to the environment as it is often portrayed.

Kennedy, who is also known as an environmental advocate, argued that the environmental concerns should not be used as a pretext to curtail the freedom to transact. He stated on Twitter, “Interesting argument that Bitcoin [is] not so bad for the environment after all. At the very least, environmental argument[s] should not be used as a smokescreen to curtail freedom to transact.”

Why It Matters: During a Twitter Spaces interview with Melker, a crypto investor and podcaster, Kennedy Jr. further expressed his support for Bitcoin. He revealed that he had purchased two Bitcoin for each of his seven children, stating, “Now I’m a Bitcoin owner, and I’m sure they’ll now find a different way to come at me, but no one can say I didn’t put my money where my mouth is.” It is worth noting that Kennedy made this investment shortly after speaking at the Bitcoin Conference in May.

Price Action: At the time of writing, BTC was trading at $26,032, up 0.04% in the last 24 hours, according to Benzinga Pro.
