Benzinga - In an interesting shift, artificial intelligence (AI) has become the most searched term on Google in 2023, surpassing both “Bitcoin” and “Crypto”.

What Happened: According to a report by Cointelegraph, Google Trends data reveals that “AI” overtook “Bitcoin” and “Crypto” in search interest in Aug. 2022. Prior to this, “Bitcoin” and “Crypto” had consistently led search interest since 2020.

The launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT resulted in a significant boost in “AI” searches and has since further widened the gap between the search terms. Currently, “AI” stands at a Google Trends score of 91, while Bitcoin trails at 22.

Despite Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) price rise from $16,900 to $43,400 in 2023, it continues to grapple with the aftereffects of a 2022 bear market cycle. El Salvador, Nigeria, Netherlands, Brazil, and Switzerland showed the highest interest in Bitcoin.

On the other hand, “AI” achieved substantial growth in 2023, with advancements in AI technology driving interest. Google Trends data indicates that Vietnam, China, the Philippines, and Myanmar had the highest interest in AI.

Alongside the increase in AI searches, “AI jobs” searches also saw a considerable rise, outpacing “crypto jobs” searches by four times, according to CoinGecko data as reported by Cointelegraph.

Why It Matters: AI’s prominence in our daily lives has been steadily growing, causing a ripple effect.

However, until recently, the interest in AI had not reached the frenzied heights that Bitcoin experienced in 2017. The recent surge in AI searches suggests a change in this trend.
