Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Insurance, Marine Transport and Paper & Pulp sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Co. (TOKYO:8750), which rose 10.57% or 210.0 points to trade at 2197.5 at the close. Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. (TOKYO:5802) added 7.58% or 130.0 points to end at 1845.0 and T&D Holdings, Inc. (TOKYO:8795) was up 5.58% or 94.0 points to 1777.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sharp Corp. (TOKYO:6753), which lost 9.14% or 17.0 points to trade at 169.0 in late trade. Dentsu Inc. (TOKYO:4324) declined 3.90% or 240.0 points to end at 5920.0 and Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4502) shed 2.55% or 159.0 points to 6067.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 442 to 153 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 4.12% to 18.44.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 1.24% or 0.75 to $61.29 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.94% or 0.63 to hit $67.44 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.28% or 3.40 to trade at $1228.70 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.35% to 119.64, while EUR/JPY rose 0.14% to 136.81.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.14% at 93.42.
