Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Technology Hardware & Equipment and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 5.46% or 94.00 points to trade at 1815.00 at the close. St. James`s Place PLC (LON:SJP) added 3.83% or 34.50 points to end at 934.50 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was up 3.42% or 6.20 points to 187.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 5.40% or 56.50 points to trade at 989.50 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 3.33% or 17.10 points to end at 496.40 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) shed 2.97% or 112.00 points to 3655.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1224 to 845 and 496 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.13% or 1.60 to $1229.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 4.10% or 1.49 to hit $37.83 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 3.02% or 1.17 to trade at $39.91 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.42% to 1.4092, while EUR/GBP rose 0.11% to 0.7860.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.29% at 96.94.
