Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Electrical, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (L:GLEN), which rose 5.26% or 4.8300 points to trade at 96.7100 at the close. Taylor Wimpey PLC (L:TW) added 3.13% or 5.90 points to end at 194.60 and Sports Direct International PLC (L:SPD) was up 2.74% or 19.500 points to 731.000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aberdeen Asset Management PLC (L:ADN), which lost 4.60% or 15.40 points to trade at 319.40 in late trade. SSE PLC (L:SSE) declined 1.78% or 26.00 points to end at 1434.00 and Unilever PLC (L:ULVR) shed 1.46% or 42.00 points to 2834.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1274 to 885 and 457 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.64% or 6.80 to $1063.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.53% or 0.64 to hit $42.35 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.81% or 0.36 to trade at $45.23 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.10% to 1.5045, while EUR/GBP fell 0.38% to 0.7020.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.25% at 100.31.
