GameStop

The video game retailer reported earnings on Wednesday which initially disappointed the market as shares fell 33%, however, they staged a bounce on Thursday and jumped over 50%. GameStop Corp (NYSE:GME), which is a popular stock on the WallStreetBets Reddit forum, has had a remarkable to start to 2021, starting from a low of $17.08 in January and hitting a high of $483 later that month. GameStop shares opened the week at $205.26, hit a low of $117.00 on Thursday before hitting a high of $218.93 on Friday and then closing the week at $181.00.

Bally’s

On Wednesday, US-listed Bally's Corp (NYSE:BALY) announced an agreement in principle to merge with UK gaming company Gamesys Group PLC (LON:GYS). Gamesys shares jumped 18% following the news while Bally’s also rallied. Bally’s shares opened the week at $68.66, rallied after the news and hit a high of $75.54 before closing the week at $69.82.

Rolls-Royce

Shares in the jet engine manufacturer have been volatile as Covid cases in much of mainland Europe continue to increase. The likelihood of a ‘normal’ summer is diminishing and global travel is unlikely to pick up as fast as some had hoped at the start of the year. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) shares opened at 115.85, hit a low of 99.00 on Wednesday before bouncing and closing the week at 106.20.

Cineworld

The UK-listed cinema name had a tumultuous start to the week as ‘reopening’ names feel amid rising cases. Things got worst for the company on Thursday after the company reported results and announced that material uncertainty around its ability to continue as a going concern remains. They also announced the issuance of a new convertible bond. Cineworld Group (LON:CINE) opened the week at 120.00, fell to a low of 88.24 on Thursday before a late recovery saw shares close the week at 102.95.

The Anglo-German listed travel company has been in focus amid the recent increase in Covid cases in mainland Europe. Shares in Tui AG NA (LON:TUIT) opened the week at 388.00, hit a low of 352.10 on Wednesday and closed the week near its lowest level at 353.70.
