Proactive Investors - Meta last night claimed a major breakthrough in the development of an instant language translator with an AI tool that can translate 100 languages.
All of the languages can be translated into text form said the Facebook (NASDAQ:META) owner while spoken English and 35 other languages can translated from free speech.
Meta’s latest tool can also recognise when a speaker switches languages, said the release.
A single AI algorithm makes the technology unique, said the social media group, which differs from rival systems that translate at stages with different software.
Meta had stated it wants to create a universal translator comparing its task with the creation of a “Babel Fish” from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy or Star Trek’s brooch-like version.
“Long been dreamed of in science fiction” Meta claimed that the idea of universal translation is now on the cusp of reality through AI.
Meta’s latest AI tool, called SeamlessM4T, will be free to use, it added, as it tries to make up ground on rivals such as Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Translate, which launched in 2006 and has now morphed into headphones that can translate dozens of languages in real-time.
