Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 3.61% or 26.00 points to trade at 747.00 at the close. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) added 3.20% or 51.000 points to end at 1644.000 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 2.52% or 86.000 points to 3496.500 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which lost 28.90% or 233.50 points to trade at 598.70 in late trade. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) declined 2.51% or 13.00 points to end at 504.50 and Experian PLC (LON:EXPN) shed 1.90% or 30.00 points to 1547.12.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 964 to 944 and 413 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.06% or 0.75 to $1213.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.24% or 0.65 to hit $51.83 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.17% or 0.65 to trade at $54.82 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.85% to 1.2304, while EUR/GBP rose 0.58% to 0.8679.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.48% at 100.74.
