Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 3.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which rose 3.91% or 58.00 points to trade at 1542.50 at the close. Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) added 2.12% or 158.0 points to end at 7600.0 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) was up 1.07% or 9.40 points to 888.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which lost 12.29% or 11.82 points to trade at 84.38 in late trade. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) declined 9.94% or 66.60 points to end at 603.20 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 9.92% or 36.10 points to 327.70.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1784 to 414 and 124 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.50% or 26.50 to $1742.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.55% or 0.11 to hit $20.22 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 4.39% or 1.30 to trade at $28.30 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.67% to 1.2538, while EUR/GBP rose 0.17% to 0.8710.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.62% at 99.498.
