Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Travel & Leisure and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 2.31% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 5.56% or 41.60 points to trade at 790.00 at the close. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) added 1.24% or 13.00 points to end at 1,059.00 and HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) was up 0.76% or 3.80 points to 502.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 8.83% or 72.60 points to trade at 749.20 in late trade. InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) declined 7.93% or 371.00 points to end at 4,310.00 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 7.44% or 12.75 points to 158.65.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1728 to 224 and 361 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 2.31% or 43.30 to $1,832.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.69% or 0.83 to hit $121.50 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.74% or 0.90 to trade at $122.91 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.19% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.50% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.79% at 104.83.
