Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 2.31% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which rose 0.54% or 0.92 points to trade at 171.92 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 0.35% or 2.20 points to end at 638.20 and Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) was up 0.09% or 8.0 points to 8896.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which lost 5.47% or 34.00 points to trade at 587.00 in late trade. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) declined 5.04% or 71.50 points to end at 1346.00 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) shed 5.01% or 222.5 points to 4216.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1866 to 367 and 140 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.44% or 6.95 to $1578.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.62% or 1.42 to hit $52.77 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.72% or 1.63 to trade at $58.26 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.12% to 1.3060, while EUR/GBP rose 0.08% to 0.8434.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 97.775.
