Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Forestry & Paper and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.73% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 1.02% or 18.00 points to trade at 1777.50 at the close. SSE PLC (LON:SSE) added 0.96% or 11.00 points to end at 1156.00 and Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) was up 0.83% or 13.00 points to 1582.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI), which lost 3.89% or 66.50 points to trade at 1641.50 in late trade. Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb) declined 3.88% or 96.00 points to end at 2376.50 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) shed 3.75% or 75.00 points to 1925.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1498 to 630 and 305 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.18% or 2.25 to $1286.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.35% or 0.84 to hit $61.41 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.50% or 1.07 to trade at $70.17 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.26% to 1.3060, while EUR/GBP rose 0.09% to 0.8556.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 97.442.
