Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which rose 2.61% or 57.0 points to trade at 2238.0 at the close. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) added 1.26% or 40.5 points to end at 3244.5 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 1.06% or 7.00 points to 666.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ITV PLC (LON:ITV), which lost 12.02% or 14.00 points to trade at 102.50 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 7.26% or 167.0 points to end at 2133.0 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 7.24% or 42.20 points to 540.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1602 to 547 and 154 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.57% or 25.85 to $1668.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.50% or 0.70 to hit $46.08 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.80% or 0.92 to trade at $50.21 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.53% to 1.2938, while EUR/GBP rose 0.21% to 0.8668.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.61% at 96.718.
