Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Aerospace & Defense and Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which rose 2.25% or 15.40 points to trade at 699.60 at the close. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) added 1.62% or 38.0 points to end at 2387.0 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 1.42% or 12.00 points to 855.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 10.02% or 29.30 points to trade at 263.20 in late trade. Next PLC (LON:NXT) declined 4.61% or 232.0 points to end at 4798.0 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 4.36% or 6.25 points to 137.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1212 to 880 and 169 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.13% or 2.40 to $1787.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.91% or 0.37 to hit $40.28 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.83% or 0.36 to trade at $42.78 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.05% to 1.2472, while EUR/GBP rose 0.02% to 0.9015.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 97.175.
