Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Food Producers, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 3.00% or 26.60 points to trade at 914.40 at the close. Provident Financial (LON:PFG) added 2.80% or 25.82 points to end at 947.60 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 2.07% or 7.65 points to 376.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 6.33% or 10.80 points to trade at 159.95 in late trade. St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) declined 3.22% or 37.00 points to end at 1113.00 and WPP PLC (LON:WPP) shed 3.01% or 36.00 points to 1159.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1189 to 703 and 150 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.50% or 6.60 to $1327.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.04% or 0.64 to hit $60.72 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.45% or 0.29 to trade at $64.66 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.55% to 1.3982, while EUR/GBP fell 0.09% to 0.8868.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 89.62.
