Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Insurance, Banking and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.06% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 2.23% or 43.00 points to trade at 1,973.00 at the close. Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) added 1.44% or 5.90 points to end at 415.20 and ConvaTec Group PLC (LON:CTEC) was up 1.30% or 3.20 points to 248.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which lost 4.26% or 92.00 points to trade at 2,067.00 in late trade. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) declined 4.25% or 32.00 points to end at 721.20 and Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) shed 4.20% or 13.00 points to 296.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1195 to 638 and 676 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.07% or 1.65 to $2,328.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.37% or 0.29 to hit $78.03 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.47% or 0.38 to trade at $82.01 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.06% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.20% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 104.94.
