Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which rose 6.29% or 73.00 points to trade at 1234.50 at the close. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) added 3.93% or 5.40 points to end at 142.95 and Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) was up 2.02% or 4.40 points to 222.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb), which lost 2.85% or 68.50 points to trade at 2334.50 in late trade. Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU) declined 2.78% or 3.50 points to end at 122.48 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC Class A (LON:RDSa) shed 2.51% or 59.50 points to 2312.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1268 to 756 and 329 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.01% or 0.15 to $1282.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.68% or 1.45 to hit $52.59 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 2.74% or 1.72 to trade at $61.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.58% to 1.2965, while EUR/GBP fell 0.52% to 0.8768.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 95.922.
