Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Electrical and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF), which rose 2.72% or 8.30 points to trade at 313.20 at the close. Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) added 1.43% or 22.00 points to end at 1556.00 and Provident Financial (LON:PFG) was up 1.40% or 12.50 points to 902.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK), which lost 5.52% or 83.5 points to trade at 1429.0 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 4.37% or 45.00 points to end at 986.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 3.72% or 43.00 points to 1114.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1208 to 788 and 382 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.12% or 1.53 to $1279.83 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.86% or 0.45 to hit $52.02 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.53% or 0.31 to trade at $58.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.94% to 1.3260, while EUR/GBP fell 0.57% to 0.8905.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 93.54.
