Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.99%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 7.11% or 70.20 points to trade at 1058.00 at the close. Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) added 3.42% or 21.40 points to end at 646.80 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) was up 3.21% or 140.00 points to 4497.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 9.76% or 14.45 points to trade at 133.60 in late trade. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) declined 3.74% or 59.50 points to end at 1530.00 and Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL) shed 3.64% or 14.20 points to 376.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1375 to 608 and 289 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.38% or 4.70 to $1222.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.02% or 1.37 to hit $69.03 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.37% or 0.99 to trade at $73.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.64% to 1.3043, while EUR/GBP rose 0.27% to 0.8907.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 94.78.
