Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Construction & Materials and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.90%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT), which rose 2.91% or 53.00 points to trade at 1873.00 at the close. National Grid PLC (LON:NG) added 2.39% or 18.60 points to end at 796.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 1.81% or 15.00 points to 845.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 10.83% or 471.00 points to trade at 3877.00 in late trade. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) declined 5.28% or 17.60 points to end at 315.50 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 4.67% or 86.00 points to 1757.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1602 to 528 and 266 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.60% or 7.60 to $1264.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 4.32% or 2.08 to hit $46.09 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 4.00% or 2.29 to trade at $54.95 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.40% to 1.2662, while EUR/GBP rose 0.26% to 0.9044.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.59% at 95.917.
