Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.85%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG), which rose 5.39% or 85.50 points to trade at 1673.00 at the close. Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) added 3.12% or 17.00 points to end at 562.00 and Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) was up 3.07% or 10.20 points to 342.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which lost 5.49% or 64.50 points to trade at 1110.50 in late trade. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) declined 4.98% or 89.50 points to end at 1708.50 and DCC plc (LON:DCC) shed 4.14% or 240.0 points to 5555.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1665 to 492 and 241 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.15% or 1.80 to $1223.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 5.12% or 2.93 to hit $54.27 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 5.12% or 3.42 to trade at $63.37 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.34% to 1.2812, while EUR/GBP fell 0.24% to 0.8889.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.48% at 96.53.
