Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation, Food Producers and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.83%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which rose 8.00% or 209.0 points to trade at 2822.0 at the close. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) added 2.49% or 13.00 points to end at 534.40 and Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) was up 2.21% or 160.0 points to 7400.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT), which lost 4.81% or 14.10 points to trade at 278.90 in late trade. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) declined 3.16% or 1.48 points to end at 45.30 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) shed 2.69% or 109.0 points to 3939.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1355 to 826 and 176 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.82% or 16.40 to $2015.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.49% or 0.21 to hit $42.68 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.22% or 0.10 to trade at $45.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.03% to 1.3237, while EUR/GBP fell 0.49% to 0.9013.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 92.323.
