Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mobile Telecommunications and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.75%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG), which rose 4.07% or 242.00 points to trade at 6186.00 at the close. Next PLC (LON:NXT) added 2.17% or 134.00 points to end at 6320.00 and Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) was up 1.79% or 3.30 points to 187.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which lost 3.51% or 73.00 points to trade at 2006.00 in late trade. Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) declined 3.01% or 34.20 points to end at 1102.60 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) shed 2.99% or 65.00 points to 2109.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1282 to 839 and 220 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.14% or 16.75 to $1489.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.22% or 0.66 to hit $53.41 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.86% or 0.51 to trade at $58.74 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.23% to 1.2315, while EUR/GBP rose 0.17% to 0.8880.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 98.762.
